According to reports from the Genoa office, the collision took place between the Tunisian motor vessel Ulisse, which transports trucks and cars, and the container ship Cls Virginia.From this last ship the fuel has been spilled out, into the sea.
The Italian Coast Guard operative center, following the directive of the Italian Minister of the Environment, has ordered the dispatch of several naval units to the area and also of an Atr42 aircraft for monitoring activities. Among the rescue vehicles that went to the site of the accident there are also three naval units of the Castalian company used to contain the spill: the Nos Taurus from Livorno, the Bonassola from Genoa and the Koral from Olbia.
e-GEOS is supporting the Italian Ministry of the Environment and ISPRA measuring and monitoring the oil spill phenomena with COSMO-SkyMed and Sentinel 1. The italian Radar constellation is the most advance SAR technology. The high resolution grants detailed information in case of oil at the sea. This data are analyzed through SEonSE, the e-GEOS cloud platform, managed by the H24 team, working at the e-GEOS Matera Space Centre.
