All the operations are performed in the e-GEOS control room by our team in cooperation with ESA and the other partners.
The Sentinel 2 mission provides a global coverage of the Earth's land surface every 10 days with one satellite and 5 days with 2 satellites, making the data of great use in on-going studies.
The satellites are equipped with the state-of-the-art MSI (Multispectral Imager) instrument, that offers high-resolution optical imagery.
The role of Telespazio and e-GEOS in the SENTINEL Programme
Telespazio is one of the Copernicus Programme’s main industrial partners.
The Company is involved in the production, maintenance and development of the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) for the Sentinel-1 and Sentinal-3 missions (through Telespazio VEGA Deutschland), of the Mission Control System of Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-5P, and of Earth observation product access infrastructure of the missions (Copernicus Space Component Data Access/Coordinated Data Access System - CSCDA/CDS).
In the operations sector, Telespazio provides its own personnel to support ESOC during the pre- and post-launch stages of Sentinel satellites and is responsible for the CSCDA/CDS operations.
e-GEOS, a joint venture between Telespazio and Italian Space Agency, is involved in the data acquisition from Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 mission through its Matera Space Centre.
Furthermore, Telespazio is responsible, until 2021, for operations management of the Sentinel-3 mission ground segment.
